• ÌýMath ClubÌýorganized many of its activities, such as hosting guest speakers. The club held its faculty vs. students kickball game at the end of the academic year.

• One of our graduates, Kevin Ng, began a Ph.D. program in Economics at Cornell University.

• One of our graduates, Dobromir Yordanov, a double major in mathematics and computer science, obtained a job at Google.
• One of our graduates, Brandon Armstrong, began a master’s program in actuarial sciences at Columbia University.

• ÌýMath Club,Ìýamong its activities, organized a trip to see a talk by a famous author Dr. Gunter Ziegler titled “Proofs from the BOOK: Putting pieces together”. The talk was held in New York City and it was an international event co-sponsored by the German Mathematical Society. This year Math Club also held a panel discussion with the panelists being local math teachers who spoke on a variety of topics such as: how to apply for jobs, how to choose the right district, the tenure system, daily life as a teacher, etc.Ìý The club held its faculty vs. students kickball game at the end of the academic year.

• News on our recentÌýmath graduates: James Caldera will be attending a graduate program in mathematical finance at Vanderbilt University. Samantha Pezzimenti will be attending a graduate program in mathematics at Bryn Mawr College. Benjamin Warren has been accepted to a graduate program in mathematics at Arizona State University.

It organized a community service of tutoring upper level mathematics courses at Ramapo College and an off-campus community service consisting of a discussion panel at Mahwah High School on “Majoring in Mathematics”. This year’s Math Club’s invited speakers was Dr. Brian Winkel from the West Point Military Academy who gave an interesting talk on Cryptology. This year Math Club also held a panel discussion with the panelists being local math teachers who spoke on a variety of topics.

They addressed the frequently asked question by mathematics majors of “What can a mathematics majors do besides teaching” and gave career advice.Ìý Dr. J. Gillespie and Dr. D. • The number of mathematics majors is on the increase at Ramapo College and reaches our record high of 117 students this year.

It organized a community service of tutoring upper level mathematics courses at Ramapo College and an off-campus community service consisting of a discussion panel at Mahwah High School on “Majoring in Mathematics”. This year’s Math Club’s invited speakers were: Ramapo mathematics alumni (Jessica Crane, Kevin Olson) currently employed by Prudential, four high school mathematics teachers, Ramapo mathematics alumnus (Atanas Frengov) currently employed by Google. They addressed a frequently asked question by mathematics majors of “What can a mathematics majors do besides teaching” and gave career advice. • ÌýMath BarbecueÌýfor Math Majors and Faculty took place in May 2007 – courtesy of Dr. Weng.
• ÌýDinner for Math Majors and Math AlumniÌýtook place in March 2007. (organized by the mathematics faculty, co-sponsored by the Dean of Students and Alumni office). The Alumni were happy to be back and gave some useful career advice to the current mathematics majors.
• Math ClubÌýamong its activities organized a trip to the MAA-NJ mathematics conference in Fall 2006 and organized tutoring mathematics at a local community center as well as on campus.Ìý It also hosted two guest speakers. Dr. Jerry Ianni gave a talk onÌý “Mathematics and Music”. Dr. Potocka gave a math club talk on “Careers in Mathematics”.
• In April 2007, Dr. Weng along with a few Ramapo students judged posters at the North Jersey Regional Science Fair for high school students.
